Artwork honouring Eli Lilly factory unveiled in Basingstoke, Basingstoke, Hampshire, UK - 03 Feb 2022
An artwork honouring a historic pharmaceutical factory has been unveiled at a new housing development in Basingstoke. The sculpture, created by artist Lucy Strachan, is a tribute to the former Eli Lilly pharmaceutical factory at Chapel Gate. The artwork was commissioned to create the artwork by house builder Barratt Homes. The sculpture takes inspiration from the geometric shapes that comprised the iconic Art Deco architecture of the factory. Standing sentinel at the entrance to the development on Kingsclere Road, the sculpture takes the form of two plinths, providing a reminder of the site's historic roots. Chapel Gate is also home to the iconic White Building, a residential conversion of the former Eli Lilly factory, which is now home to 96 one and two-bedroom art-deco style apartments.
