Viridian is a darker, more subdued version of emerald blue-green with jewel undertones. Because it is composed of slightly more green than blue, it falls between teal and green on the color wheel. The name viridian derives from the Latin word viridis, which means "green". Veridian's complementary color is Camelot, which is a deep pink or vibrant raspberry color. Pair these two colors together and you can create a space that brings to mind feasts at a round table in a luxurious medieval castle. If you want to use this bold color combination, do so in your dining room, living room or library.
You can soften the darkness of viridian by pairing it with soft creams and stainless-steel fixtures. For instance, you may wish to paint your kitchen cabinets viridian for a stunning visual impact but then lighten the rest of the space by incorporating cream countertops, cream table and chairs and stainless-steel pendant lights and fixtures. For many viridian brings to mind a mermaid's tail. Take your cues from under the sea and pair the jewel-toned color with neutral sand tones, mermaid blue and other shades of blue and green.
Viridian is a color that brings to mind all things luxurious. For this reason, no matter how you use it, it will make any space—from your kitchen your bathrooms—feel infinitely more sophisticated.
