Catalan acting President, Pere Aragones, holds a press conference to announce he's quitting frontline politics following his party ERC's bad results in the Catalan elections held on 12 May, in Barcelona, Spain, 13 May 2024. The Catalan Socialist Party (PSC) have won Catalonia's regional election (42 seats) as pro-independence parties lost ground, with former regional president Carles Puigdemont's JxCat party in second position (35 seats), ahead of the Catalan Republican Left (ERC), who has lost 13 to reach 20 seats.
